The Benefits of Indoor Plants

Aside from their beauty and aesthetic value, the benefits of indoor plants also include the promotion of wellness and health. How so? Read on.

IMPROVES INDOOR AIR QUALITY

During the 1980s, NASA conducted a study of various common household plants and their benefits concerning air purification, in order to see whether or not the plants would benefit a space station’s air purity. What they found was incredible! The plants would filter out certain harmful compounds (ammonia, formaldehyde, benzene, etc.) in the air and make it much healthier to breathe. Aloe Vera, for example, not only possesses healing qualities for your skin, but is also a benzine purifier and heavy oxygen producer that may assist in sleep for the common insomniac.

IMPROVES SLEEP QUALITY

We had alluded before that Aloe Vera is a plant that produces an excess of oxygen that may assist the common insomniac. This is actually true for a lot of plants! A very well known fact about plants is that plants can help give off oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. Such a process promotes deep sleep for an individual if the plant is introduced into the bedroom. The Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) for example, is an odorant plant where just by simply inhaling its aromatic incense may help in a better quality of slumber.

REDUCES MOLD PRODUCTION

How frequently do you find yourself cleaning your kitchen or bathroom with bleach in order to combat persistent mold? If you have any answer other than “Never”, we suggest including some household plants like a Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum spp.) . A Peace Lily is a very interesting plant that actually absorbs mold spores through its leaves and uses it as food. On top of that, it also has the ability to absorb harmful chemicals from acetone or alcohol used in cleaning.
